Bohemian Boy Nursery

When I found out I was pregnant with a little boy I was BEYOND excited. Kensington is such a good sweet baby girl, and we were ready to try our hand at a rambunctious tornado boy. Of course with all my craziness, I IMMEDIATELY started thinking about the nursery. I’m not really into “kiddish themes” like with animals or bright colors (as seen by Kensington’s nursery which I wrote about last year HERE), but I knew I wanted him to have a lot of earth tones, wood, and neutrals. As I scoured Pinterest looking for inspiration, I was so frustrated that “woodland” theme kept having little foxes and animals everywhere, and was thrilled when I found that “bohemian” boys room DID NOT. So that’s how I’m categorizing this…bohemian. I think. LOL.

We wanted to bring in a lot of different elements to the space and started with the wall. I knew I wanted a sage green blue and found THIS ONE from Magnolia Market that I LOVED. I picked up a sample when I was down in Waco for a friend’s birthday, and it turns out that was all I needed. Around the same time, I realized I wanted to add texture more than I wanted a full paint over or accent wall so I ended up just using a paintbrush and making small different sized random rectangles all over the back wall. I love how it turned out. We hung THIS bellabloom mobile, set up THIS tent, and were all set to go!

Then I enlisted my husband. When we got married I didn’t realize how AMAZING it was that he is handy, but it so is. He ended up building a few things for the nursery for me (side table, fantasy direction sign, shelves) and assembling basically everything else. We really wanted to showcase the shelves he built since the wood is so cool and chunky.

We hung them over the changing table (check out this INCREDIBLE changing pad we found for Kenzie. Seriously a life saver when baby has an accident mid change) and stocked them with some cool pictures, toys, and books. Kensington’s favorite books are The Pout Pout Fish and Escargot so we got extra copies of those! Then we added THIS beautiful (and cheap) rug from World Market.

I love how it all came together! We brought in the same chair I used when breastfeeding Kensington because a friend of mine told me last year “Invest in a good chair – you’ll be spending MOST of your time in it”. So I did. And it was sooooo worth it. We (David) installed THIS really cool wicker light fixture from IKEA and I had an amazing mom in McKinney make this cool name plaque (her website HERE).

Ultimately I might like it more than Kensington’s LOL. The room has such a warm home-y feel that I can’t wait to bring Everett home to it! I really think it’s going to be a great first room for him. What are some of the themes you chose? What were the hardest items to buy/find?
